Workshops and Group Classes
Breath and Body for Vocalists Using the Alexander Technique
@ The Old Town School of Folk Music Saturday February 21st 1-3pm
For singers, our body is our instrument.
This workshop offers an opportunity to explore connections between body, breath, and voice while giving a comprehensive roadmap for vocal freedom and support. Using the Alexander Technique (a century old breathing and relaxation method), we will apply concrete tools to illuminate the anatomy of breath, let go of tension, and make music-making more intuitive and fun. We will also offer the opportunity for individual coaching in a supportive environment (please prepare a verse or chorus of a song of your choice to be sung a capella).
Do you feel stiff while you sing? This workshop can help. Do you want a feeling of ease and connection while using your voice? This workshop can help. Do you want more access to your breath and less physical tension? This workshop can help. Join us and reconnect to the fundamental ease of singing.

Most people dread speaking in public. Sooner or later, we all have to do it! Presentations at work, a wedding toast, or leading a group discussion. Sometimes our anxiety gets in the way. This course is designed to take the fear out of public speaking and insert the fun. Using the underlying skills of improvisation, we will help you become a more effective public speaker. Weekly exercises enable participants to: maintain focus and concentration; use the body & voice to express clear, detailed choices; respond imaginatively and expressively to various circumstances; and, connect to audiences of various sizes. No experience necessary.
